A moderately casual affair with a focus on Fall and Winter Holiday themed music. Students prepare 1 or 2 pieces to perform from memory for an audience of their family, friends and fellow students. They may also play duets.
Spring Studio Recital
A more formal presentation with a focus on classical & recital music. Students prepare 1 or 2 pieces to perform from memory for an audience of their family, friends and fellow students. They may also play duets.
Summer Collaborative Recital
A casual recital of ensemble music. Most ensembles will be piano duets, but may also include piano trios & piano with other instruments. Students work on their ensembles individually over the Summer, then rehearse together the last 2 weeks and perform on the last weekend of the Summer semester.
CCMTA Fall Festival
CCMTA event intended to provide a performance opportunity for piano, vocal, and instrumental students to play church music, holiday music or classics before a judge in a relaxed small group situation. Although not competitive, a judge will listen to performances and provide written, constructive feedback. Student Affiliate membership is required.
CCMTA Spring Festival
CCMTA event intended to provide a performance opportunity for piano, vocal, and instrumental students to play traditional teaching repertoire before a judge in a relaxed small group situation. Although not competitive, a judge will listen to performances and provide written, constructive feedback.Student Affiliate membership is required.
CCMTA Piano Contest
CCMTA event intended to provide pianists an opportunity to perform and compete, within grade levels, required selections before a panel of judges. Trophies are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Honorable Mention winners. First place winners for all grades and 2nd place winners for grades 1-5 also perform on a Winners Recital. Student Affiliate membership is required.
CCMTA Young Artist Competition
CCMTA event intended to provide pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists an opportunity to perform and compete, within grade levels, selections of their choosing before a panel of judges. TMTA Theory Test
A TMTA even intended to provide an opportunity for students to test their knowledge and mastery of music theory and aural training skills. Students who make a 70 or higher pass and receive a certificate. Students who make a 90 or higher also receive a bronze, silver or gold medal. Student Affiliate membership is required.
TMTA World of Music Test
A TMTA even intended to stimulate interest and appreciation for music composers, their works, and the history of their times. Students who make a 70 or higher pass and receive a certificate. Students who make a 90 or higher also receive a gold medal. Student Affiliate membership is required.
TMTA/CCMTA Convention Ensembles
A joint TMTA/CCMTA event intended stimulate interest in ensemble preparation and performance, emphasizing teamwork skills such as group listening, counting, memorization and following a conductor. Ensembles will perform at a pre-Convention concert in mid-June and then on concert of ensembles from all over Texas at the TMTA Convention in late June. The convention is in a different city each year, so travel will be required unless the convention is in Houston. Student Affiliate membership is required.
Piano Guild Auditions
A division of the American College of Musicians, the Piano Guild created the Guild Auditions to to encourage growth and enjoyment through the study of piano and to establish definite goals and awards—in non-competitive auditions—for students of all levels, from the earliest beginner to the gifted prodigy. With the exception of our “special” programs, teachers have the flexibility to choose all repertoire for student auditions. Students asre judged on individual merit, by a well-qualified music professional, in the areas of accuracy, continuity, phrasing, pedaling, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, tone, interpretation, style, and technique.
